Case of Ten High and a case of Coke. He won't be expecting that.

Ask his wife or friends what he likes. Even the most expensive stuff is distasteful to some. Different strokes for different folks.

You can spend a LOT on this sort of thing. My brother and husband both sip on it, but haven't spend "major" money on it. There are some brands that they like…..Buffalo Trace, Blantons, 1792 are found at both of our homes regularly. They both like Tom Bullocks burnt orange a lot. One Christmas I bought Larry a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label and he really enjoyed it. That runs around $200, which is more than the others, but worth it. If you get into things like the bottles of Pappy its more of an investment or status symbol thing than actually liking what you are drinking.

Johnny Walker Blue Label is scotch not a bourbon. I have tried some of the high dollar ones and they were good, but I'm happy with the regular less expensive ones like Markers Mark, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey mostly enjoy the 80 proof, higher just knocks me out quicker… Although these days I'm lucky (or not) to have any bourbon at all, usually once every couple of months. Beer on the other hand….

I like Evan Williams. You can buy good bourbon from 100 dollars to 15,000 dollars a bottle. Where is Austin 20 when you need him.

    Hint, hint…

Not real expensive, but mighty tasty.

Every person's taste is different. It is not determined by the price of the alcohol. But when asked what bourbon I would recommend, it would either be Benchmark, or Four Roses (small batch)

Another vote for Benchmark but Buffalo trace is good too.

Booker's if you can find it. will make a fine gift to someone who appreciates a good bourbon. runs about $120 to 140 a bottle.

Jeffersons Ocean is a bourbon with a story. They are up to 28 voyages that I know of at the moment. Delicious and different. Won't break the bank at around $100 per bottle. Jeffersons has a wide selection to choose from of bourbons and rye whiskeys. You could build a set of the various bourbon offerings for him to choose from when he makes a trip to his bar.

I remember when Four Roses was the cheapest rotgut

whiskey you could buy. All the drunks in.my area drank it when down on their luck .

Geeze, guess that makes me a down on my luck drunk as I like Four Roses. I think it's overlooked and find it extremely close to Woodfords Reserve.

Weller…. hard to find but worth the trip

Basil Hayden is another nice choice

I'm not a bourbon man but I have friends who like it, so I have a few bottles on hand.

Some of their favorites are Blantons, Buffalo Trace, High West, Jefferson, Elijah Craig, Bulliet, Makers Mark, etc. They're all in the $50-120 range.

Even had a $2500 bottle of Pappy. Tasted like the same paint remover to me.

I understand people have different tastes. For instance, I don't like coffee, or dark, bitter beers. Probably why I don't like bourbon or scotch. And, why my friends like to come to my place.

You can blame the Japanese for the 4 Roses costing $50+. I pray they don't find Ten High to their liking.
