picked this up at a local auction, cal. is .222 rem. what can you tell me about it. It looks like a copy of a Winchester hi wall

    Be cool to get the lever, scope ring and base to match the fire coloring.

    The Clerke falling block single shot rifle was produced in the 1970's and was offered in .222, .22/250, ,243, 6mm, .25/06, .270. 7mm Rem. Mag., .30/06 and .45/70. It should handle any reasonable Group II or III .45/70 load.

    If it was mine, I'd limit myself to Group II loads in order to err on the conservative side and keep recoil within reasonable limits.

    Grasshopper: It's a .222, there isn't any recoil!

    I think the .222 is a great cartridge; I have several of 'em. They are usually 1-14" twist and were intended to shoot 50 gr. bullets but most of mine will handle flat base 55's quite well. IMR4198 is the classic powder for that cartridge but the .222 doesn't seem to be fussy about powder. My favorite powder for it is H322 but I can't find it anymore.
