Well, after studying the forecasts a little more and assessing our property, I decided to take the girls and leave. With 20 big trees looming, including one I just noticed was cracked at the trunk base from HELENE, I figured I would not roll the dice on the “expected” weakening. Seen them get it wrong too many times to bet the children’s safety on it. We headed north about 3 AM. VERY heavy traffic, but got to the Valdosta area, and still trying to find a spot to stay. May have to camp it out in the van…. Make an “adventure” out of it. Haha!

By the way, everything from I-10 north into GA looks like it has been bombed out. Unbelievable the wind damage HELENE left here. Whole area looks like ground zero of a tornado.

Also….saw this on the highway and just had to laugh. Guess EVs aren’t for every occasion…. like bailing out of hurricane alley in a hurry with 3 million other people. Need American power for that task!

Son flew out to Orlando last week to see a friend. Flight tomorrow was cancelled out of MCO. Now waiting it out on the Atlantic coast by Daytona Beach. Good thing his friend's stepdad in a county emergency management director.

I am 1300 miles north straight up I 75. The guest room is always ready.

Can teslas be used to power microwave? Now if they could be used to power homes that could be handy.

Frogdog, Brandon looks lucky, as the storm should pass just south of Tampa Bay and you don't get the massive stormsurge of a direct hit on Tampa Bay. But, if I was you, I would leave for Georgia like you did.

Likewise gjshaw, the projected path is just south of Tampa Bay, lucky for you. My girlfriend's best friend moved from Birmingham to Venice ten years ago where she bought a house. On the projected path right now at 8am, Venice is on the wrong side, the SE side of the storm. Venice will get 14 foot storm surge and 130 mph sustained winds, and tornadoes piled on top of that. On the current projected path Venice will be destroyed. I think Deb is going to move back to Birminham. I bet Deb is in Birmingham right now sleeping on her sister's couch, she is no dummy. Hope she's got hurricane insurance on that Venice property.

Grandson just flew into Orlando last night from Iowa. He is part of a crew that will work to restore power after the impact of Milton. He’s not sure where they will put them up during the hurricane. He said as long as it’s not like Texas this year. They had to have state police and national guard protect them, as people where threatening and attacking them because people didn’t feel they were working fast enough to restore power. Some people are just plan spoiled and stupid.
Guess they’ll be working 16 to 20 hour days, but on the clock until he gets home.

My wife and I were talking about that too. Would be pretty neat if you could charge your EV pre-storm and it serve as a big power bank for your home afterwards. I’d think that big Tesla battery could run some light bulbs and a fridge for a while.

I'll have to ask my brother. I know his grandson was charging his Iphone on the Tesla. Seems like you could use it to power up your house.

A neighbor is into battery power. He said that when his battery backups drain, he can charge them off his F150.

Frogdog - At least with gas/diesel engines one can cook "manifold meat".
