They are absolutely different. DO NOT pair a rifle barrel with a shotgun (SB1) receiver. It is not safe. You need the SB2 rifle receiver.

The SB1 is cast ductile iron, whereas the SB2 is milled solid steel. Most folks in NEF/H&R forums advise 40K cup is the MAX for an SB1. Not safe for the 500 s&w.

Sent you a message with a link to some discussions where you can get more info on the receiver pairings and specifics. Very helpful site.

Had the same problem with one in .44 mag. A good cleaning and little or no oil on it solved the problem.

The 'locking mechanism' of these is engaged by spring action only. If dirt/debris prevents full engagement. the action can 'pop open' upon firing. It only takes a few of these incidents to bugger the parts making the gun unsafe.

This is in the owners manual of some and the Over/under Savages so as to reduce chance of unlatch when firing.

Do not lube the latch mechanism.

Their is a site that has lots of NEF type info

    try searching for Go2GBO.com
