N.E.F. experts ?
I have an NEF in 500 S&W mag that opens when fired , nobody around here repairs these as there are no parts. I picked up one in 410 that the barrels interchange perfectly . My question is are the rifle and shotgun frames and parts heat treated differently or will the 410 frame take the higher pressure of the 500??
thanks

They are absolutely different. DO NOT pair a rifle barrel with a shotgun (SB1) receiver. It is not safe. You need the SB2 rifle receiver.
The SB1 is cast ductile iron, whereas the SB2 is milled solid steel. Most folks in NEF/H&R forums advise 40K cup is the MAX for an SB1. Not safe for the 500 s&w.

Sent you a message with a link to some discussions where you can get more info on the receiver pairings and specifics. Very helpful site.

Had the same problem with one in .44 mag. A good cleaning and little or no oil on it solved the problem.

Thank you all, time to regroup

The 'locking mechanism' of these is engaged by spring action only. If dirt/debris prevents full engagement. the action can 'pop open' upon firing. It only takes a few of these incidents to bugger the parts making the gun unsafe.

This is in the owners manual of some and the Over/under Savages so as to reduce chance of unlatch when firing.
Do not lube the latch mechanism.
Their is a site that has lots of NEF type info
try searching for Go2GBO.com
