A few of our cats and one of ther guest
The cats and skunks get along like their family .
They Share food don't fight and best of all the skunks are comfortable never spray the cats . Or us LOL
the Skunks have been around for many years I use to dispatch or relocate them but ended up just making peace with them
We have a few still living in the out buildings maybe three or so or . Also in burrows
at one time close to twenty, of the modified cats with" fluid drive " as the old folks use to say . but they were thinned out at random back in the spring . I try to live and let live but feeding 20 skunks and our close to same number of cats was getting crazy

Some "pet" wild skunks. And they get along with the cats. That is pretty good.
My cat got sprayed by a skunk once, what a mess! Took a lot of tomato juice and shampoo to clean that up.

As long as they do not fear for there life they are well behaved
There not tame by any means but realize we not a threat same around the cats and chickens
Now the dogs are a different story but over the last 30 years only twice did they spray one of dogs and that was just a warning shot I would call it not a all in effort
The Skunks really hate to use their spray unless in real danger they know it's limited supply and use it as a last ditch effort

I seen this documentary several years ago on skunks. A skunk generally will always give you two warnings before it will spray. First warning it will turn it’s back to you then turn and face you, second warning it will turn and raise it’s tail, after that your on your own.
When we were kids we had a pet skunk that had its spray glads removed when it was young. A vet had removed them and it was legal I guess back in the 50s, as dad bought it from the vet. They actually are a very clean animal, always grooming them self, and in some cases washing their food before hand. Unfortunately the neighbors dog got a hold of it and killed him.
Their spray is a form of a very concentrated sulfur based compound.

They threaten each other I have seen them get in the fod bowl or close and just the others out of the way and rase ther tail
During mating season they will threaten ach other I have read the emails wil spray a male that's not wanted (sounds familiar. LOL
as for warnings, my ecperence they will make false charges and scratch the ground first as warning then will trunk and rase their tale after that the next will be a sample shot to ward off whatever
Bit as long as they have a escape route and not cornered they are more than happy to walk or tun away to avoid the fight
I have held door open the chicken coopas they they will steal eggs or even guided them with a broom away even used my foot to coax an exit with no problems I always talk soft and move slow so no threat
I have had countless interactions with them, never been sprayed

I apologize if I've posted this before.My mother told of having a pet skunk that she had raised from a baby during the Great Depression. Money was tight, and it was out of the question to have the scent glands removed. The family had a bunkhouse where the farm hands stayed, especially during harvest. One afternoon during harvest, she and her skunk friend were playing in the bunk house when the skunk tripped and fell down the stairs –becoming startled and letting go a healthy spray. The hands as well as Grandma and Grandpa were quite unhappy with her for a good while.

When I was a kid, cousin Ernie found a orphaned baby skunk on the farm by the house. He took it to the vet to get stinker removed. That skunk became Pete the skunk. Pete would wait for Ernie to come out to do chores and would follow him everywhere. Pete would respond and come to his name being called. So many great memories of the farm.

Friends had a descented skunk as a pet . Not much different from having a house cat ,litterbox and all.

With a skunk on it and "skunk whisperer" spelled out under the image
And a sign for my pole barn Door
"Caution do not pet the cats with white stripes " it also with a skunk image on it
