Headsup on Remington 597 17 HMR recall

Remington has a recall out on their Rem 597 in 17 HMR. The offer is a $200 voucher. Don't take it. Ask for the rifle to be rebarrelled to 22 Magnum. They will pay the shipping both ways and replace the barrel with a 22 Magnum barrel which is what the rifle was originally designed for. The problem with the 17 HMR is the pressure curve is different and the bolt starts to recoil before the pressure has dropped enough to be safe and the case head lets go...bad thing.

  THANKS! I've been searching for the cause of the 17HMR scare since I first heard the rumors a year ago, and this is the first post that actually let me know whassup. I've had no bad shots through my 10-22Magnum, rebarrelled to 17HMR, but it's good to finally get to the bottom of this.
