Hello as a quote from Single Shot Rifles by James J. Grant " The Creedmoor style rifle usually had a half-octagonal 34 inch barrel chambered for the 44caliber case in 2&1/4 inch length. This was first loaded with 77 grains of powder, as was the Sharps in this size; but a little later it was loaded with 90 grains.Later these rifles were chambered for the Sharps.44/90 and44/105 loaded in 2&5/8 inch NECKED cases. There is also special REMINGTON .44/90cartridgein 2&7/16-inch NECKED case. " so if your chamber is straight walled it is the .44/77 . I take it these are all BLACK POWDER LOADS. I would slug the bore and also look to see if straight or NECKED chamber. This could be a Valuable gun make sure you don' screw it up . I would also check on loading some old timers still loaded the lead bullet itself from the Muzzle and others seated the bullet in the bore from the chamber end and then loaded the shell with just powder and a wad into the chamber. also some shooters of this time frame used PAPER PATCHED bullets. BTW we all would love to see pictures of your Creedmoor

If in good shape, this is an EXTREMELY nice rifle.
Pictures would be a big help in discussion.

There is a lot of expertise on the Shiloh board.

We've been shooting .40 and .45 calibers for a long time but there is getting to be some fresh interest in the old .44s.

To know just which version you have, you need to cast the chamber for the shape and slug the bore for diameter.

You can buy brass for several versions and die form most of the rest. I don't know anybody loading ammunition for it.

Black powder reloading is a very different activity than throwing together some .30-06s for your deer rifle. Here are three good articles on the subject.

I don't know why I can't get that second one to come up as a link, so cut and paste starting at the http://members

Ammunition - Buffalo Arms has .44-77 Sharps and Remington but only the Sharps .44-90. They do carry .44-90 Remington Special Bottleneck brass.

It is marked "44" just ahead of the forend on the bottom of the barrel? Regardless you need a chamber cast, before you do anything else. All these rifles from this time used a "BORE" diameter paper-patched bullet.
