Everytime a manufacture comes out with a new shotgun the question come up "will it be as good as the Benelli?" and every time the question is answered "it's really good, it's almost as good as the Benelli, but...". The SBE II has proven itself to be the best of the breed over and over again, if you want to waste your money try a new model then all the power to you. Than you can always have the nagging feeling in the back of your mind that you should have bought the Benelli in the first place.

Take a look at the new Beretta 400. Will change your mind. BTW Beretta owns Benelli.

I am in agreement with Mk 19. No one that I have seen has been able to outdo the Benelli...so much so, that Beretta had to buy them to get their market share back.

quote: Personally, I would go with a Winchester Super X3!
The Super X series are nothing more than Browning Gold wanna be's. Not that the Browning is a bad gun, but the Winchester line-up is just a frill-less version of the Browning.

quote:I think I would give the Remington Versa Max a try. Before you commit on buying anything
I don't really see, how you can not commit, when trying something that new, I think you have to buy it.

quote: Why anyone would ever design an automatic shotgun where the two major parts (barrel and upper receiver) that can blow up in your face, to be made in one piece, is beyond me!

I would guess that is why they are the designer, and you are not.

It is hands down Benelli, for the most advanced, reliable, and fastest auto loading shotguns in the world!

    Now go get that Benelli!

    Best

    EDIT 1

    idahoducker,

Easy does it, or you will be accused of taking people out of context too. I do agree, anyone who says that about a Benelli, has not had much, if any experience with them. The Winchester, and Browning are made in the same factory. The new Vinci is even better yet!

    EDIT 2

The Versa Max MSRP starts at $1399.00, and there is already a safety recall on them? No Thanks...sounds like Remington's antics of get it to market then see if you can get it to work are at it again...THEY NEVER learn!

I am sorry but I just do not see all of the whoopla in owning a Benelli! Sure they are great shooting and reliable shotguns but until you spend a lot of time doing so and get used to disassembling and reassembling them, they are a virtual pain in the ass to reassemble. The Super X2 and X3 are easy to disassemble and reassemble with very little time spent learning to do so and from what I have seen of the Versa Max, it would be easy to disassemble and reassemble as well.

You didn't just say that Benelli's are hard to assemble/reassemble did you? Seriously? Have you ever done it? About as simple as it gets when it comes to auto-loading shotguns. You'll need 30 seconds each way and that'll give you enough time to drop something in the process.

As far as the Versamax goes I doubt it as much as I doubt any other gas operated shotgun. They just can't handle the conditions that Benelli's can. By that I mean really cold weather, ice, mud, water, sand, etc. Too many finicky parts in gas guns for me. And too many friends with broken Extrema's, 1100's, etc.

Maybe Remington has figured something out that Beretta, Browning and Winchester haven't but, like I said, I doubt it. If you hunt a little then you'll be fine with most any name brand gun but if you buy shotgun shells by the case then spend the extra on a Benelli.

    Edit:

    huntsman53,

I didn't really intend for hard feelings but when you bash a gun like the SBE by calling it a PITA and a POS you're going to get bashed back.

    tsr1965,

You brought up a good option when you mentioned the Vinci (I really want one) and that is the fact that it and the M2 are cheaper. Priced about the same as the Versamax's I've seen. With the improvements to duck loads over the past several years I no longer see the point in using 3.5" ammo unless you're a dedicated goose and/or turkey hunter. Even then I have no problems with 3" shells for geese and only use 3.5" for turkeys because of the slightly denser pattern available. Heck, my dad refuses to part with his old 2 3/4" chambered Wingmaster and kills ducks just as dead as anybody else with quality ammo.

Wow, I got my moneys worth on this topic. I do thank you for all replys as I got good advice on a broad spectrum. With the price of all duck guns going up I am sure my choice will have something to do with price. It seems that no one hates one gun over another and I now have some new options than I first considered, thanks to all that posted.
