Doesn't sound right to me. Can you post a photo? 0 -
On some guns, Ruger and post '64 Winchesters, the steel alloy in the receivers will turn a purple color, especially when rebluing. 0 -
Some bluing turns purple/plum colored over time.
Its probably normal.0 -
I have several dozen, well maybe around 130, blued H&R revolvers and have seen dozens more, some from as far back as the 1890's - none of them have turned plum. The H&Rs that I have seen with plum colored frames have been reblued/refinished. Unless your 922 is one in a thousand, I'd say the odds are it was reblued at some time in the past. 0 -

I've been wondering about a similiar color on a h&r "22 special" that I recently aquired. The difference is that the color is amber or bronze, and you can see the steel beneath the finnish. It really makes the old gun look unique, kinda like the two-tones so popular nowdays. 0 -
pacman,
From my experience and considered opinion - if the frame color isn't deep blue and it doesn't match the barrel and cylinder - it is a reblue job.
p.s. Welcome to the forum. Stick around and enjoy - lot's of good info here. I learn something(s) new every day.0 -

It may be a San Francisco centennial model.
However, different steels can take blue differently, so that may be a reason it doesn't match. The frame may be a different material than the barrel and cylinder.0 -
