Brass cleaning

I bought some used brass at a gun show the other day, and it looked like brand new brass. It still had the spent primers in it, so I know it wasn't new. The guy at the show said, "it's our little secret", so I have no clue how he did it. Anyone have a technique for getting the inside to look as shiny as the outside?

I never worried about it. That red dust is lapidiary rouge, helps clean the cases faster.

If the red rouge type dust bothers you, you can cut a anti-static dryer towel into about 1 inch squares and run it with your brass and after about two or 3 runs using the dryer anti-static towels the rouge dust will be reduced almost to nil!
I've never had any problems with reloading the red rouge dusty brass, but I use the dryer towels to eliminate the messy dust!

Hello The red dust in my opinion MAY in fact be a un-thought of benefit. Take this as only one example and others loading different cartridges MAY not get the same results. I only load large amounts of 45ACP and small amounts of other pistol and rifle ammo. In my pistols I normally get 100,000 rounds of target loads from each barrel before I replace them . I test every year with Ransom Rest 5000-7500 rounds or if I change lot # of bullets /primers /powder. My barrels don't wear out the bore but rather the lockup. when I first replace a barrel it may tend to lead up just in front of the chamber and the bore looks smooth I use both Kart and Barsto brand match barrels. Group size is acceptable. however after the first year or so the leading goes away and the bore looks almost to take on the look of Chrome. I attribute this to the rouge dust that gets blown down the barrel The group size actually gets better after the first 1,000-10,000 rounds . again your mileage may vary. just my $.02
