Not sure about the .38? It might be a military tracer? Years back I shot up some .45's with similar red noses, they were tracers from the WW II era. Supposedly issued to pilots for signaling.

Had some of those solid bronze .25's years ago, unfortunately due to the ravages of time my brain has turned to mush, and i have forgotten what name they were sold under.

The idea was that they were going to make the .25 ACP much more effective as a self defense round, by being higher velocity, improving penetration thus stopping power, etc.etc.

Unfortunately when the federal law preventing the sale of "Cop Killer" bullets went into effect it banned the sale of solid bronze bullets like these .25's, and they were taken off the market.

There was a cylindrical all brass round out at one point that was supposed to cut a perfect hole though its target, sort of like a large gauge biopsy needle!

Concept is intriguing, though I have no idea if it worked in reality. (Probably NOT. . .the light weight probably didn't penetrate all that well, and the hole would likely clog with clothes or tissue).

Anyway, I think the issue became moot as the BATFE shut down that particular ammo as "armor piercing".

I think this is it, the PMC "ultra mag":

I had some of this PMC hollow bullet stuff years ago also. There were two different variations. The feds made them stop selling the bullets made of solid bronze/brass they were illegal, because of the "Cop Killer" law. PMC started making the bullets out of a lead copper alloy, that were legal to sell. The guy who owned the patent for the hollow bullets sued PMC and forced them to quit making and selling the hollow bullet ammo though.

I have 4 boxes of that tubular PMC .38 ammo. Maybe I'll try it out on some jack rabbits.

It's possible that the .38 could be a bean bag round. These were coated in a red plastic case. The case separated upon firing and a small 1" diameter piece of cloth with shot inside emerged.

Are there headstamps on the brass?

.25acp,nickel case,G.F.I. headstamp,3/16th hole in bullet and very deep hole. Fired one and it is VERY load ( Colt Juinor almost flew out of my hand?) and penitraded 3- 2X4's...Spread to twice it's size..38 special, Winchester case stamp, teflon coating, fired one from ruger snub, went through kelvar vest and shattered into pieces(looked like aluminum) when it hit concrete wall, vest was hanging from ???????
