Remington Model 14 Value and info needed.
I just finished finding out information on a Win 94 and here I have one more that I need to know more about.
It is a Remington Model 14 pump rifle chambered in Rem.35
Serial number on the side of the Receiver is 99198
Marking "RY.)" at back of barrel on left side.
And "R.E.P.*" on right side.
Buttstock number (behind receiver on inside) is 123143
Buttplate number is 123043.
Has rear peep sight with marking "LYMAN" on it and front flip up buck horn sight.
Bluing on receiver and barrel is in good condition and it is worn on the mag. from use.
Compass has been added into the left side of the buttstock.
What details can anyone give me about this in regards to age, originality and expected value for resale asking price?

DOM appears to be 1930. Plus as far as the rifle is concerned, 35 Remington ammo is still available, not like the other Remington cartridges. Minus is that it appears to be well used and not factory original with the compass in the stock and peep sight added. This would put it into the shooter category for some guy in PE looking for a old timeey vintage deer rifle. 0 -
Nov 1930 mfg. looks to be a carbine, model 14R, unless it has been cut down, back sight I do not believe is original, should be a wheeled leaf type. Peep sight, these and the marbles peeps for these bring between $75.00- $150.00 themselves. The compass does take away some value and a carbine should have a straight grip stock. The last one I sold(14/14A) with the metal in this condition, all original, good wood and bore I got $425.00. If it is a true carbine (18 1/2" barrel)it should bring a little more but some where in the $350.00- $450.00 in this condition, to the right collector a bit more. 0 -
It is a 18.5" barrel. It has not been cut down because the sight mount on the barrel is original since the metal is raised there.
And that sight at the end of the barrel is a flip up type too.0 -

Yeah, that's aftermarket too, might say marbles on it somewhere. My father has a couple dozen of these Remington pumps- 14,14r, 14 1/4, 25, 25r and 141's and one came with extras including that type of flip up sight marked "Marbles"0 -
One more question. You can see in my fist photo that there is a groove in the top of the barrel a couple inches behind the middle flip up sight. What would this be for and is it supposed to be there? It does not look like it is dove tailed at all. 0 -
My model 14 also has the groove. I have a Remington factory parts catalog from 1940 and the rifle barrel pictured in it lacks the groove. I think it is for use of early rear sight. Perhaps one that elevation was adjusted with a wheel rather than a notched slide like on mine and is pictured in the 1940 catalog. 0 -
Update.
I was able to sell this gun for $500 at the local gun show this weekend.0 -
You did well. 0
