870 trouble
I have a 870 that will not close. I have tried two bolts and it did not help. It will close only if the barrel is off. Any suggestions? Frank

Which Rem 870 is it? An Express or Super Express? You may have the wrong barrel for the action. 0 -
The barrel is 1st. Make certain you have the bolt facing the correct way. If it is difficult to slide the bolt is reversed. 0 -
This one is an older Skeet model SC serial prefix with matching barrel.
The bolt is fitted correctly, extractor facing out. I have tried two different bolts. The barrel works fine on other STD 20ga. 870's.0 -
So it sounds like you have eliminated both the bolt and the barrel as being the problem. Try substituting the complete slide action forend assembly from one of the other perfectly functioning STD 20ga 870's in the receiver/gun that is giving you trouble. Then you could eliminate the dual action bar slide assembly as being the problem, too. Sounds like something is binding when you try to close the action with a barrel on the receiver. 0 -
Have you dry fired the shotgun with the slide or bolt not closed? I bought 2 870's on GB and when they were delivered neither of them would close. I tried all that I knew to do and then noticed that they had been dry fired. I cocked the trigger assembly and problem was solved. Both shotguns now work great. I hope this helps. 0
