Bought by my father in March of 1981 and stored. NIB never been fired. You will not see many of these for sale. 1 of about 900 guns made of this type.

I think at that price unless you find someone who is looking for a MO State Patrol gun for a collection and just has to have it, you are gonna sit on it a while. In this economy $600-$700 0 -
Unfortunately, most commeratives, are only worth about as much as their contemporary counterparts. That is unless, someone of that organization happens to be looking for one. You might do better by advertising in the local/regional paper, so the folks in that organization could seet it.
As has been stated, you are looking at the range of $600.00-700.00, and possibly plus an additional $100.00 for the box and knife. It is a nice looking gun though.

Not to be a wiseacre, but its worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. That depends not only on the gun itself, but also on how many other comparable ones are on the market right now, and how many people are looking to buy one.
Just because a gun is rare, doesn't necessarily follow that there is any extra market interest. In case you haven't noticed, there actually is another one just like yours listed for sale now, too:

That gun has been listed for sale for three months, indicating (at least to me) zero current interest at the listed price level.
Anyway, I think the estimates already given are pretty close to the mark.
Its possible someone with a particular interest in the MO highway patrol or some rabid collector will come along and pay the $1200 you're asking for this, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
As has already been mentioned, typically commemorative type guns like yours aren't worth much more (or any more) than similar non-commemorative guns in identical condition.
If you want to know its TRUE value, re-list the gun in a true auction starting at one cent, and I guarantee you that it will sell and that its actual market value will be realized.0 -

I agree. Rare doesn't always equate to valuable, especially for something that was specifically designed to be a collectible. It depends on how many people are looking for one and what they're willing to pay.
Hopefully, a retired Missouri State Trooper will spot it and just have to own it.0 -
Its nice that you are selling your Dad's gun with his badge number...don't you have any interest in keeping it in the family? Maybe pass it on to one of your kids?? I know its none of my business what you do with your Dad's gun, just seems it would be better to keep it in the family. Its a piece of family history. 0 -

Never said anywhere, that its his dad's badge number...just like the rest of the weapons he has for sale, that they were his dad's...0 -
Maybe I misinterpreted it, I read "Bought by my father in March of 1981", I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that it was his dad's service weapon.[B)] 0 -
My dad worked for the Missouri Highway patrol for 42 years as a radio operator. They were not issued badges or weapons. Date is from his FFL bound book. I am guessing that not every patrolman bought his badge number. I hope they were given first chance to buy theirs by S&W.
You are incorrect and an ass to accuse me of selling my dads service gun.
