Use a BB for the ball, match it with a small spring [;)]

You can sometimes use a hole punch to make round shims from aluminum stock that you can place at the bottom of the hole, under the spring that will push up on the ball bearing and increase the tension on the detent.

Small bolt turned down with a hand held file and a drill motor. Will give leaway for the set, plus you can shape the point to fit the notches.

Here are some pictures of the actual scope:

Here you can see the hole where the spring and detent go.

The hole appears to be just under 1/8 inch in diameter. The spring was about 3/4 inch long. A longer spring can be cut to fit; it's the diameter that matters.

By the way, I have been to three hardware stores and an industrial supply house, looking for a spring, but no one has one this small.

Rob the spring out of a bic lighter, it pushes up the flint under the thumb wheel.
