Tasco 31T Spotting Scope Parts/Diagram
I have a very old Tasco 31T spotting scope. It has two ocular lenses, 12X and 20X, mounted on a turret. You just rotate the one you want into position.
This scope is compact, with a square body and a built in tripod for setting on a shooting bench.
It looks like this one:
Anyhow, there is a spring and detent for the turret. The screw holding the turret came loose and I lost the detent. I used a small steel ball I had on hand, but the spring appeared to be too short to use with a ball.
Maybe the factory detent is something other than a ball?
I managed to booger up the spring in my efforts to fix it, so now I need a spring and detent.
You need not suggest that I try the Tasco website. I did, and there is nothing there for a scope this old, and no email link.
If any of you have a manual or know where I can find one, maybe I can see what the detent is supposed to look like. If it is nothing more than a ball, I can probably use one I have on hand and pick up a hardware store spring to go with it.
The hole where the spring and detent go is round. The notches in the turret that intercept the detent are rectangular.

Use a BB for the ball, match it with a small spring [;)] 0 -
You can sometimes use a hole punch to make round shims from aluminum stock that you can place at the bottom of the hole, under the spring that will push up on the ball bearing and increase the tension on the detent. 0 -
Small bolt turned down with a hand held file and a drill motor. Will give leaway for the set, plus you can shape the point to fit the notches. 0 -

The hole appears to be just under 1/8 inch in diameter. The spring was about 3/4 inch long. A longer spring can be cut to fit; it's the diameter that matters.0 -
By the way, I have been to three hardware stores and an industrial supply house, looking for a spring, but no one has one this small. 0 -
Rob the spring out of a bic lighter, it pushes up the flint under the thumb wheel. 0
