Rust removal
I just picked up a couple of older progressive reloaders. One is a Star in 44mag and the other is a Size O Matic 800B in 12ga. They both have some rust on them that I would like to remove. Is there anything better than steel wool and gun oil. How about the Rust/ Blue remover I have seen in the gun cleaning products. Any help would be great.

Kroil wet for 24 hours then brass /copper pot scrubber then wet again with kroil then use burlap to wipe rust off. 0 -
I recommend the Frontier Big 45 Metal Cleaner (website). It works as advertised. For very hard rust you may have to scrape it off with a sharp edge of a piece of brass. Steel wool and a solvent works but will leave minute scratches depending on the grade used. Small stainless steel (will leave scratches) and brass brushes are always handy to use. A lot depends on the value of the firearm as to which method to use. 0 -
+100 for Perryshooter's method. Be sure you get the REAL Choreboy potscrubber- they are copper, not copper plated steel. Will not scratch a steel finish. Leaves traces of copper, which will wipe off with Kroil, burlap, and elbow grease. 0 -

Get some brass brushes to help as well...

With light freckling rust I've had very good resuls with RB17 and light work with 0000 steel wool. 0
