I just bought #410518, 16 ga. Bert said it was made in 1924 and Winchester went to 2 3/4" chambers in 1927. Obviously yours was made earlier than mine. An outfit called Polywad sells 2 1/2" shells at a reasonable price--I bought 10 boxes. I haven't shot mine yet so can't say how well they work. I'm sure Bert will be along with your DOM. 0 -
Mike,
According to the 2nd volume of Bert's book, your model 12 was manufactured in 1922.

thanks guys, it's not mine ([:(]). I do have a few 'short' shells 0 -
Mike,
October 1922.
If the chamber length is not marked on the barrel of a 20 or 16 gauge Model 12, it has the short (2-1/2" or 2-9/16") chamber. When Winchester made the change to the 2-3/4" chamber, they marked the barrels as such. This holds true for both the 20-gauge and 16-gauge guns.0
