"pre ban" AR

Yes, there are still some states that permit only "pre-ban" models of so-called "semi-automatic assault rifles", & they command a slight premium.

However, it is unclear exactly what you have. You didn't tell us the model you own. Are you saying the gun was stamped "pre ban" by the manufacturer, or did the seller just write that on a tag? Is the upper original, or a replacement? Do you have the original shipping carton? Do you have any proof that it is pre ban?

EDIT: Those of you who live in NYS can get an AR-type rifle from your local dealer; it may not be as evil looking as you would like, & it won't be cheap, but you can get one. If you want a pre-ban gun, you still have to go through your local dealer, so talk to him & see what you can get. Al, you cannot buy your AR-type rifle in another state from a dealer (none will sell to you) or from a nonlicensee (none can legally sell to you); if you buy one illegally, you are looking at 2 years in Ray Brook with Bubba as your cell mate.

Yes, there are some states like here in NY, that say if an AR-15 or that type of rifle, was made after September of 1994, that it can't have a folding stock, bayonet lug, or flash hider/threaded muzzle. Anything made before that date you can own, in just about any configuration.

It will have slightly extra value if the SerNo on the receiver shows it to have been manufactured prior to the Federal assault weapons ban.

[If above paragraph is correct], then the buyer from locations that still honor the Federal AWB will look carefully into the purchase.

If placed at auction..in the item header, either place 'NY legal'(see paragraph one, above), or show the date of manufacture.

NY adopted the federal ban with one more abhorrent feature added, complements of a suck up on the way out republican governor.

I'm in NY and actually looking for an AR 15. I'm about ready to abandon the idea though because of all the restrictions. I can't get a clear idea of what this state will allow. I've heard that they're great fun to shoot and would like to own one but I'm just not sure if it's worth the trouble. Can anyone clarify the NY rules for me please. I'm tempted to go out of state and just buy what I want but I have a pistol permit and don't want to give anyone any excuses to pull it if I get caught with an illegal piece. quote:

Here's a NY-specicic gun forum (blog) that has a NY Laws topic section that will answer all your pre Federal AWB ban questions to a T.
