Sales to California ?

I have a single digit Colt Ace service modal and another harder to find pistol I've been thinking of selling on Gun Broker, my question is, I notice some sellers state " No sales to California" What is the problem in a selling a gun to some one in California?

    CA has a restriction on the retail sale of what could be termed "current" handguns, that is hand guns of recent production, which must be tested and approved by the DOJ. The CA DOJ has a list of such handguns which are approved for retail sale in CA. Handguns which are over fifty years old are considered to be Curio and Relics and are not subject to these restrictions. If your pistols are over fifty years old you will have no issues finding eager buyers in CA.

    Add also the exception that applies to most single action revolvers.

    I believe the exemption applies to C & R handguns that are fewer than 50 years old too - a Smith 53 or Colt SAA 2nd Generation fewer than 50 years old (among others) would be allowed in under the CA C & R exemption. CA law requires that imported C & R handguns must go through a FFL dealer, not direct to the C & R FFL holder.

    No issues with long guns unless they happen to be so called assault rifles. A Sauer 202, which are in fact beautiful rifles, are not going to be any problem.

    Every FFL shipment of a firearm into California has to have prior approval in the form of a Firearms Shipment Approval Number:

    I am an FFL located outside of California. I ship/transfer firearms to California FFLs. Am I affected by the California Firearms Licensee Check (CFLC) Program?
    Yes. You must obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number from CADOJ Bureau of Firearms prior to delivering a firearm to a California FFL. Consequently, you will need to enroll in the CFLC program to obtain Firearms Shipment Approval numbers prior to shipping firearms to California.

    But then:

    No. The requirement to obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number only applies to holders of valid FFLs.


    Still, a lot of people in the Free States decline to deal in such a repressive regime.

    Federal law says that you can transfer a firearm to an FFL (i.e., a dealer) in any state. That includes CA. Of course, you must first receive agreement from the dealer that he is willing to receive it.

    You do not need to worry about whether or not the firearm is legal for sale in the dealer's state; if he can't legally transfer it, he won't agree to accept it.
