Gun Show Etiquette?
May be a dumb question but here goes. Going to my first gun show in Green Bay tomorrow. Should I take a gun case into the show with me in case I buy a long gun? I am just looking but you never know. I would think the police would have a problem with me walking around with uncased shotgun or pistol in a busy auditorium or the Lambeau Field Parking Lot with hundreds of people all around. If I bought a pistol I have a CCW and would just stick in my belt under my coat to get it to the car.

The gun will be inspected for loaded chamber and a plastic tie placed on a depressed trigger.
Take an over the shoulder bag for small stuff and to keep your hands free.
You can carry a thin sleeve type case in the bag plus a small flashlight, magnifying glass and bore light.0 -
I think what he is talking about is leaving the show with a gun. I have friends that are police officers and they sometime want me to come into the station with a gun and I put it on my shoulder barrel down action open. Revolvers I open the crane and hold the back strap with one finger. Pistols I open and lock the slide back and carry the weapon hanging with my finger in the loop. If you carry a gun in a safe non-threating manner you most likley will not get bothered. Most states have a waiting period or at least time to run a back ground check, you are a lucky guy if you can walk out with out having to do either.

Emmet- most states do NOT have a waiting period. Background check is run at most shows via cell phone while you are standing there. And yes, there will be a lot of people carrying guns, in the open, coming and going. Inside and out. But ya know, it's good to ask if this is your first time. And yes, CCW or not, most shows, NO loaded firearms past the door- inspected and zip tied. 0 -
If you are concerned, stick a couple of gun socks in your over-the-shoulder bag; you want to have your hands free. Plus, aisles are narrow & get crowded.
But, I wish you luck; I usually walk out of gun shows mumbling to myself; prices seem to be 20% above retail. Many dealers are still displaying the same guns I saw on their tables 5 years ago.

Many folks walk around a gun show without cased guns, some advertising their guns for sale. Bought a nice Swede 94 that way at a show in DE a couple of years ago....guy walking around with a small Swede flag flying in the barrel with the "for sale" sign on it! Nice touch. But if it makes you feel better, take a soft case with you...but I never have. 0 -

That's to be expected at a gun show. If you buy one there, it will have a florescent tie through its action. Some shows use one color tie for those entering the show with a firearm and another color for the vendors selling at the show, so the dealers can tell if you just bought what you're carrying around or came into the show with it (and are likely looking to sell/trade it).
I wouldn't walk around with a case in expectation of buying something. You'll be destroying some your "negotiating" position if you're looking with such "expectations." Leave the case in your car; if you buy something and didn't want to carry it out of the show uncased, leave it with the dealer while you go to your car to get your case.0 -
If you buy a gun and have to have a case 99% chance you can find a nice inexpensive case at the show..but you shouldn't have an issue walking back to your car without one. The cops will know that a gun show is going on. 0
