Colt 1904 Grip dilemma
I have a Colt 1904 US Army 38. The grips are RAC marked. I have another spare set of RAC grips I wanted to put on the 1904 because they are in better shape. My dilemma is the drilled holes in each grips are on opposite sides of the bottom of the grip. The 1904 is in the rear of the grip and my other is in the front of the grip. I notice the pin in the butt of the frame, and the hole it fits into the grip, and it looks like the pin can be removed from the butt of the frame and place ito the forward hole in the butt of the frame.
Questions:
Can the pin be removed and placed in the front hole of the butt of the frame to fit the better of the two grips?
My other question is how does one remove the pin from the rear and insert it in to the front without mashing it up or chewing the edge with a pair of pliers trying to pull it out? Can this even be done? Thanks for any expert advice...OD

You might try to carefully tap the pin out using a brass drift punch. Unless the pin was staked in position it should move fairly easily. The brass punch shouldn't deform the pin as long as your careful and don't beat on it with a heavy hammer. 0 -

Thanks rufe..I will likely take it to my local gunsmith and see what he can do, if anything. I thought it might be an easy task but I don't want to screw it up. I have another pair that do fit from a 1903 also, but I wanted to use the spare pair...Thanks again..0 -
Wouldn't it make more sense to just drill a new hole in the second set of stocks?
While I am no expert on these "left wheelers," it seems unlikely that the locator pin would have been moved on the frame during production. Perhaps the second set of stocks are from a different model Colt?
The man who literally "wrote the book" on these "left wheelers" can be contacted over on the Colt Forum, where he goes by the screen name of COLTDAGUY. He can probably explain the locator pin location issue.0 -

I thought of that but really didn't want to do it. The grips are marked RAC so they belong to a US Army model. I will see if I can contact your "go to guy" Thanks OD0
