DON'T do it! The H&R reciever is not made to take that much thrust. The 460's pressures can escalate, way above the high 50KPSIG. It is nothing to joke with.

This is a photo off the net of the H & R SB2.

ok how is it that a 308 that can get to 60.000# is put on a sb2? i am trying to understand. 0 -
My understanding is that the SAAMI maximum average pressure (MAP) of the .460 is 65,000 psi. while 308 Winchester rounds have an average pressure of 52,000 psi. 0 -
That gun is factory available in 22/250, isn't it?? It can handle the pressures then. 0 -
The gun is already available from the factory in .500 S&W. I would say it should be able to handle .460 S&W. http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Rifles/youth.asp
I don't think I'd waste my time building a .460 in a H&R. Id buy the .500 version or if you just want that caliber and a single shot rifle then get a Ruger #1 that comes in that caliber from the factory.0 -
The PRESSURE is related to thrust, but the thrust entails the pressure in pounds per square inch, multiplied by the surface area in which it acts upon, to come up with pounds thrust. Thrust is the reason Thompson Center would not chamber any 308 head sized rounds in the Contender, and the reason why we have both the Encore, and the Contender now. They are both superrior to that H&R.
If you must try the 460 S&W in that H&R, all I can say, is it is your face, and limbs, not any of ours.
The 500 operates at a little...not much lower pressure, than that of the 460.

i have a 500S&W rifle your not going to like the kick..i fired mine 4 times with full loads ..that was that 0 -
If the customer wants a H&R, I would just tell him to get it in 500 S&W. What ever he is shooting will not be able to tell the difference between the 460 and the 500 and you remove the liability issue. Because if the 460 ever lets go it will be your fault.
You could call H&R and ask if they have ever considered building it in 460? There there are issues they would probably tell you.0 -
ok i think i will not do this one--thanks for the help. now i have a barrel blank in .452 can i cut a 458x2 chamber in it and reload and use 452 die. bullets? 0 -
