Pull the stock off and look on the receiver on the righthand side just above the trigger-housing group. My Springfield was stamped there 1943.

Pull the slide back, get a light out (my old eyes) and look carefully on the side of the barrel...should be a barrel date there. You can also research the serial#. Many have been rebarreled so the barrel date might not match the serial# date. You have just taken in one fine rifle!!!

According to Mr. Duff's book, you're looking at around April of 1953.
