Remington 1100 Magnum 12 Ga

Recently bought the above shotgun, and was told by a friend, that you are not suppose to shoot 2 3/4" shells in it. The barrel does say for 3" shells. I have never heard of a 3" gun not also handling 2 3/4 shells. Is my friend correct?

  the lighter 12 ga. loads may not function the action, outherwise shoot away. the one I had would function properly with heavey trap loads when 'skweeky' clean.

  In the early 70's, I went duck hunting with my Dad. A guy I worked with had a 3" 1100 and graciously loaned it to me. I bought a box of 3" shells loaded with 1 7/8 oz. of #4's. Every time I fired that gun, it pounded my back foot into the mud and knocked my hat off into the water! I was very glad to see that last 3" emty eject into the water. I then went to 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz. high brass loads and had a manually operated shotgun.

  Seems like Remington could have learned from browning, and provided some simple adjustment.

  Remington has learned. Try a model 11-87.

  You're friend is correct. I have one.
  
  If you look closely there is just one gas port in the barrel as opposed to two.
  
  You can use a standard barrel with 2 ports and it will function fine with 2.75 inch shells.
