I have mixed feeling on laminated stocks. I have one rifle with a synthetic stock which replaced the factory laminated stock that split threw the recoil lug area. My pick would be 3, 4, 5 in that order.

    mrankh,

MPI has the M88 stock listed on their website and all they make are fiberglass stocks.

    http://www.mpistocks.com/index.htm

However, if I was to choose a new wood stock, my preference would be to skip anything made from plywood and go with real, solid wood. Just be sure to seal all the surfaces with poly or whatever you choose as a finish. The same applies to plywood also.

If the plywood stocks are significantly less money and all you need is a stock to bang around with, I might relent...

    Best.

I have a Winchester 88. Just a personal opinion, but I think an older rifle such as this should be in a nice walnut stock. I have a few laminates and like them fine, but not on the old stuff.
