S&W 1000 S/G Question
A friend has asked me to find him a M-1000.. I notice that some are advertised as "3 inch chamber"..Will a M-1000 with a 3" chamber cycle with 2-3/4" shells???

Jim, If you mean the pre 'late 80's 1000, I have two S&W 1000's, but never laid hands on a 1000M. The "M" (magnum) had a different gas valve than the other models, and is "supposed to" cycle everything from 2.75" dove loads to 3" slugs. They had screw in choke tubes also, same as Winchoke and Inv.
This might help you in your search. Howa made these for S&W until they got out of the shotgun market, then Mossberg picked them up for a couple of years. Mossberg kept the same model numbers, and some of the early Mossbergs have their name, and S&W stamped on them. So search Mossberg 1000M too.0 -

My S&W Magnum cycles 2 3/4" shells just fine, although it did jam once with a light dove load. 0 -
The most noticeable difference between the two models is the weight. The standard 1000 has an alloy receiver and the 1000M receiver is steel and feels much heavier. 0
