winchester 37 receiver

Have a model 37 redletter winchester shotgun receiver that was given to me several years ago. I was told that it is supposed to be for a 16 gauge. Is there anyway to identify what gauge it is actually is?

  I have a red letter M37 16ga, but I don't have a 20 or 12 for comparison, so I could get the measurements but it would't mean much unless we knew what the other gauges measured.

  Do you have a micrometer, or dial calipers?
  I have a set of 37's and could get you several measurements if it'll help you.
