Mossberg 590 Remington 870 Mariner finish
I wanted one of these Mariner shotguns because of their corrosion resistance. After reading about them they are not stainless but have a "coating". Are these just duracoated or something? Would a duracoated Remington Wingmaster be just as good? Thanks, Steve.

It depends upon the shotgun, & when it was made. I don't recall ever seeing destruction testing on all models, but I suspect that most folks will be happier with a stain-resistant factory model than one that they refinished on their own.
This Winchester 1300 Stainless Marine has a stainless steel barrel & magazine tube, both of which have been nickel plated. Most other metal parts are covered with the proprietary Sandstrom 9A phosphate coating. We have lots of choices.
