870 Wingmaster Question

I see that Remington still produces the Wingmaster. Have they always offered a Wingmaster or was production halted for some years? For some reason I was under the impression that they were no longer in Remington's line up.

    As far as I know... they haven't stopped production of the line since it was started. But don't quote me on that.

    However, resently you hardly ever see one new for sale. I think this is becasue a majority of Remington's customers have complained about it's high price and have demanded a more economicaly priced gun.

    Thus, the birth of their "express" line. A no frills 870 with everything the Wingmaster is "supposed" to have except blued steel & a good finish on the wood.

    I haven't priced the 2 guns recently but their used to be about $150-$200 price difference.

    I have a 870 Wingmaster that was made the same year I was born & I'd put it up against any new express model you can find. I think the action on the older guns are far superior to the new production.

    I seem to remember the .410 Wingmasters going out of production at some point. Anyone here know for sure if and when?

    As far as I know, the Wingmaster has been in production, ever since it was introduced, and has been available in 5 different gauges.

    Yes, I have a couple Wingmaster's, and ther workmanship is definately superrior to the Express. That said, I have a very early Express Turkey Gun, with a 21" barrel, too. Every time I take it to the trap range, the fella's shooting the K-80's, and high end Beretta 687's, are not amused by the 23, & 24's I shoot with it. I have a Winchester Select Energy trap gun that I also shoot, as I only shoot 4 or 5 times a year. I take the turkey gun just for fun some times. All factory stock, with the factory extra full turkey choke, but it has been patterned at 30 yards. Kills turkeys out to 65 yards with Winchester Supreme Hi-Velocity #6's, in 3 " loads.

    There are 5 pages worth of "Wingmaster" shotguns on the auction side, if you go to firearms/shotguns/pumpaction, then type in 'Wing Master" on the search window.

    Thanks for the replies. I guess because I never see ads for new ones and don't hear guys talking about buying new Wingmasters I thought Remington discontinued them.

    The current wholesale price of a Wingmaster is between $576 and $655. They have just about priced themselves out of the market with the introduction of the "express" entry level shotgun. The wingmaster is no longer available in left hand.

    I also agree there is something smoother about the old wingmasters. The .410 and 28ga I believe were special runs , at least a while ago and were offered as dealers,customer demand got big enough

    I picked up an 870 SC (Skeet Competition) a few years ago at a gun show in Cadillac MI for $375. It is a BEAUTIFUL gun! GREAT wood...Hand checkered! Made in the 70's. If anyone is looking for a great looking 870 Wingmaster...try to find one of these...for the money....they are a great buy that is QUALITY...ALL THE WAY!!!!
