E.Remington rolling block rifle
Hello,
I have an E.Remington rolling block rifle that i am trying to determine the Model and DOM.
there are some hard to read Patent dates on the receiver.
I mailed Remington and they told me it may be a Model #1 ,and they had no data on the DOM.
The rifle is 38'' overall.Barrel is 23'' long.
Caliber is 32 Rimfire.
I attached some pictures.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Per Flayderman's Guide, more likely to be a "Model 2 Sporting Rifle".
Markings on left side of frame and rimfire caliber would definitely differentiate it from the much more common #1.
Made over a long time span, stretching into the 20th Century.0 -

thanks for the reply, any way to determine DOM from the serial number?
I have searched online and cannot find any info.
I did see what was advertised as a model #1 on a auction site that had a serial number that was 10 numbers earlier then the one i have.

Definitely a No 2 Rolling Block as made 1873-1909. Unfortunately for the collector, Remington had the bad habit of "batch numbering" their guns of this era. So it is almost impossible to tell the date of manufacture of a Remington rifle or pistol before they went to the letter codes in 1921. None of the books I have, Flayderman, Blue Book, and Ball even say how many were made total over 36 years.
There is no source of fresh .32 rimfire that I know of. Conversion to centerfire would eliminate collector interest.
The tang sight is a nice addition.0 -

Thank you for the information, I might add the rifle is light weights about 5 or 6 pounds.
What would be a good reference book in your opinion?

Sorry, not my game. Flayderman is pretty general and of course Blue Book is very generic. The Ball book has more on their revolvers than rifles.

This would probably be the best reference available, unfortunately it's kind of spendy. Amazon as well as other on-line dealers carry it.

Looks like a nice rifle, how is the bore? Google 32 rimfire reloading perhaps you could shoot it. I think it needs some TLC and some fresh oil but that could just be me. 0 -

Charlie, The bore is a little rough, i'm going to try and clean it best i can without screwing it up.
The rest of the rifle needs cleaning and some oil.
I would like to shoot it, but finding 32 rimfire ammo isen't easy.
