double powder charges in auto loading rounds
I have a question about reloading auto-loader rounds vs. revolver rounds. I have seen photos of what has happens to revolver cylinders after a double powder charge. My question is does this happen the same way in a blow-back operated auto-loader pistol if there is too much of a powder load? Will it just vent the excess gas during recoil?

Looks more like blowing out a stuck bullet.
There are pictures on another board of a couple of autos after high pressure excursions, whether from overload, bullet setback, or the mysterious "detonation." The guns are pretty much fragmented.0 -
In over 350,000 rounds in 45 ACP I have never had an double charge Thanks to my Star Reloader with Brewster auto indexer. How ever I have had TWO over pressure loads [:(] This was caused by a combination of
#1Thin walled cases made by TZZ and #2.451 bullets made by Nosler along with #3 the larger of 3 LYFETIME Sizing dies I use in my star . What happened was the bullet pull was very light Thus 2 bullets out of approximately 300 I shot pushed back until it was stopped by the power charge in the case. This happened with the bullet hitting the pistols feed ramp . This caused over pressure resulting with case giving away blowing the magazine follower spring & base out of the magazine as well as the magazine itself[:(] It also blew the grips off despite the fact that I had a firm Grip [:0]. Did not damage pistol [^]This was during Slow fire so I had time to change Magazine as well as Ammo and grips after inspecting pistol . But it did take some mental fortitude to keep from flinching on the next shot IT was a line 10 [:D]. I found out what the cause was when I went to pull the remaining 90+ bullets and they darn near fell out the case before I even tapped the inertia bullet puller. [:I] .0 -
With a pure blow-back caliber pistol (.25 ACP, .32 ACP, .380 ACP etc) there would be significant added velocity imparted to the slide's rearward motion. I would expect the rearward motion timing might allow case gasses to escape at the breech. One concern would be the stop mechanism for the slide. The added velocity may cause it to lock rearward (OK) or to override the stop and fly off (NOT OK). The powders used in these calibers are usually among the fastest burning powders, but the case capacity would allow an overload to be very visible. 0 -
Can't say I've ever seen one bulged in the middle by an overload, the ones I have seen in person and pictured either blew the casehead out the feed ramp or split the chamber. Still looks more like a bore obstruction to me. 0 -
