Model 28-2 serial # location

I am asking to confirm that the serial # on a Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman" can be located under the crane of the revolver and not just at the butt of the grip-frame? This gun has a Hogue that covers the butt and I have no way of removing it right now. The # I located inside the frame was N88675.

  That sounds right for a M28 made around 1970.

  Cool, thanks. I have seen the older Registered Magnums with the "REG####" in this location, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a production number or some other number instead.
