Blank firing gun?

I was think of trying to build a blank firing sten gun and what do I have to keep it legal? Is welding up the barrel enough?

  if your implying of building a full auto blank gun on a cut up original sten gun, you are crazy! that is constructing a illegal machinegun. welding the barrel means nothing! it is still a machinegun! do some internet searching, and you will find new made blank guns that are legal to own.

  To give you the short no- NO. The RECEIVER is the gun. A welded barrel does not mean jack to the ATF. Replace barrel- operational machine gun.

  Thanks for the info. I just though it would be fun to try and build one myself. I had a feeling that there could be problems with making one . I have been looking for a website on the requirements for building a blank gun and I have unsuccessful thus far. If anyone knows of a site please let me know. Thanks Tim

  Take a look at what the hollywood folks do - usually propane or butane with a spark device... puts out a puff of gas and then it goes off, giving the muzzle flash, etc. Sound is added post-production

  Some things are legal to build, and some are not. I once saw a Thompson look-A-Like, that fed the blank rounds from a drum in backwards. It must have had some type of expansion chamber though. It fired in full auto, and there is NO WAY a live round could fire in this device. The fella who owned it is from NJ, and says it was a "MOVIE GUN". He paid a substantial amount of money for it.
  
  That said, I don't think usig an original machinegun reciever is in the cards for things the BATFE would let fly.
