S&W model 49
I have a S&W mod.49 bodyguard, blued(98%), pinned barrel, serrated trigger, factory wood grips & safariland finger groove grips. ser.#J905xxx. What was the DOM and what is it worth? Is there any value in the box/papers? I have checked on the sale side, and there are none for sale right now. thanks for the help. lee...

I took a nickle model 49 with pined bbl in the original box and extra grips to a recent gun show. I priced it at $450.00 and didn't even get any counter offers. 0 -

Selling a personal protection handgun in cali that has to be papered and transferred thru a FFL, has a very negative affect on a lot of prospective puchasers. At the fairgounds PHX show you wouldn't get it past the door at that price.0 -
It was made in 1981. (But, I don't understand why that matters; it isn't close to being a C&R.)
Yes, the price will vary regionally. I would expect it to sell in the $400-$450 range in the Mid-East.
I think the original box & papers would make a $25-50 difference in what folks would pay.

Thanks guys- I appreciate the info. Henry, how do you access the "sold list"? or do I need to already have the item in my watch list to find out the final sales price? thanks.lee... 0 -
Yelnif, go to the advanced search page. At the top are two tabs, one for current auctions, one for completed auctions. Select completed auctions, sign in and you are on your way. 0 -

I just paid $350 for a 98% nickel version from 1982 (no pinned bbl, slight cylinder ring). For some reason the "hump-backs" just dont get the love that the other J frames do. 0
