Walther P 22
Does S&W stand behind this weapon and I like it but sure has problems Jamming and not real dependable.I was reading they could be problematic after the fact I bought one (used)

Very ammo sensitive, so I understand. Try CCI Mini-Mag solids or Remington Thunderbolts.
Since you bought it used, any warranty might not be applicable? Call S & W customer service at their 800 number, if the Mini-Mags and Thunderbolts don't work.
EDIT #1, Per Mikes post. My understanding is that most of Walther 22, other then vital parts that absolutely have to be made out of steel. Are made of Zinc diecastings = potmetal. If high speed ammo such as Mini-Mags and Thunderbolts are required for operation? Most likely it's going self destruct sooner or later, like Mikes sons pistol.0 -
Also try CCI standard Velocity; sometimes slowing things down a bit helps with reliability. 0 -
As has been suggested, by rufe, they are very ammo sensative, and just plain finiky. You will need to try several loads, untill you find the one it likes.
As far as S&W goes, I am not sure who is importing them, or distributing them, but there a bunch of them SIG Mosquito, Walther P-22, Ruger SR22, and a few 1911 type, that appear to be of German descent...like GSG. Some, like the Ruger SR22, have been tweaked from the P22 design, and seem to operate well.

S&W does do warranty work on them. My son bought one, several years ago. The slide cracked, S&W replaced it. The 'hold open' notch chipped, S&W replaced the slide (again). Pistol has since been sold [:)] 0 -
Yes, Smith services them.
Yes, they are ammo picky (as are many. . .but not all. . .semiauto .22s).
They will run better after a 500 round break in period.0 -
Took one out of the box new and put a whole "carton" of Fed Automatch thru it with no issues... 0 -
Wife has no problems with hers so I can't address the warranty issue, Ammo sensitivity has been nonexistant since I bought 3 new mags, there was an issue with the first series of mags for this model. The new mags made her probs go away.
What I did find after her first shooting session was that the barrel tended to come loose, had to work that over and it's been trouble free for the last 1,000 or so rounds.

Personally, I've had great luck with Remington Thunderbolts and absolutely horrible results with CCI Stingers. Most everything else is somewhere in the middle. 0 -
My P22 fired out of battery and I sent it to SW and they fixed it no problem. They paid ship to and fro and told me to send the gun only, nothing else. I was sent a brand new in the box pistol so I now have 2 hard cases, spare magazine, spare grips, sights everything. Remington ammo is what went kaboom on me. I use strictly CCI standard velocity or sub sonic ammo now.
What you might do is call SW and give them the serial # and see if there any updates or recalls on the model. Tell them you heard stories about the gun after you bought it and see what they say.I bet if the guy is in a good mood he will offer to inspect it for you.
I doubt you will have to worry about it blowing up. It's a fun gun to shoot. Get out and enjoy it.0 -
I'm on about 700 rounds through mine. Mostly Federal bulk packs but it really shines and is snappy with CCI.
My barrel works loose and will cause feeding issues. I keep the barrel wrench in my range bag. Thinking about re-installing it with Loctite.0 -
I sold my Walther and bought a Ruger SR22, eats anything, so far no problems with close to 800 rounds thru it. 0
