Browning Lever .22

I have a Browning Lever action .22 Mod # BL-22 which has no working 1/2 cock saftey on the hammer and all the info googled says nothing about a safety, is this normal ? I have not taken this rifle apart to check, if you own one does yours have the 1/2 cock ? Any experienced replies will be appreciated greatly. Thanks [;)]

    I am not 100% sure about the BL-22, but a lot of the modern Winchester/Browning/Miroku produced lever guns, including centerfire, do not have a half cock safety notch. They have a rebounding hammer, and a spring loaded firing pin.

    Mine was made in Japan and DOES have a working half cocked hammer position. I don't use it. I choose to carry the rifle with an empty chamber and a full magazine until I'm ready to shoot, then I work the lever and fire.

    Lot of firearms with older designed mechanisms, have been lawyer proofed in the last 20 years or so. The manufactures don't want to be party to liability law suites based on the firearm not having a manual safety.

    Although I'm not familiar with the Browning your requesting information on? My WAG it's of recent manufacture, and has a manual safety.

    It "was" made in Japan if that matters [?] And has a spring loaded firing pin. Hammer type ??

    We just took one of these guns on consignment at the gun store where I work, and I noticed today that it does not have a safety notch. Will check on it again tomorrow and see if the safety notch is broken or is just not there at all.

    My 1970 Miroku has a working 1/2 cock. Great little levergun. All BL22's were made in Japan. Never had one apart. If it feeds,fires, and ejects it's a good thing. Old dried lubricants and rimfire crap within could be the culprit. Were it mine,I'd remove the butt stock and give it a aerosol CLP wash,let it sit,a CLP rinse, let it drip,and wipe it down and put the stock back on. If the 1/2 cock is still inop, at least you'll have a clean, lubricated action to get dirty again! Enjoy your 22!

    I cocked the hammer and blew it out with my air compressor and all is well now, the 1/2 cock works now [:)] must have been trash in there, I've never owned a Browning lever .22 before so this was new to me. It does'nt look like anything I'd enjoy taking apart to work on from what I see and read [;)]
