Are they reliable?

I've heard that they are hard to load. Why?

    Sorry I have no help for you, but I will be interested in responses to this too. I gave up on ever finding a detachable that works. I put the original 10 round fixed back in, but would like to find a 20.

    Not sure about other makes, but used them with no issues on Noricos... of course, being chinese surplus, it isn't supprising... doubt they'd work on a yugo, etc.

    Guess you are talking about the factory Chinese ones-yes they are good--And are expensive-That would be my 2nd choice as the 10 rounders are the first=

    had several back in the day. worked very well ,hard to find.
    the only way to load was/is with stripper clips not to hard just finding the right place & pressure point on the round to push down
    into the mag.
    Wish i had one for my SKS.

    Always heard that the higher capacity duckbill mags were jamming machines but I had 3 or 4 that always worked well for me in my Norinco.
    Problem I had was the curve of the mags interfered with the bayonet coming out and interfered with any prone position shooting.
    Other problem was I always had difficulty loading using stripper clips, the second and third clip took an awful lot of force to get in and I just didn't have it.
    Finally just went back to the original configuration but kept one of the 30 round mags so I could upset the liberals

    yes, i had one when i got sick of the "detachable" not working. it was great, but i ended up using the plain 10rd anyway.

    I had to modify the magazine to work on a Russian SKS. The second stripper takes some work to get it to strip into the magazine and tries to push the ammo back up through the receiver if you are not use to working with it.

    Came across 2 while rumaging around, going to have to find and list them for you sks shooters. Lots of fun when I had the Norincos and Russians.

    I have one on my Chinese Paratrooper SKS.
    The 1st stripper clip is easy to load. The 2nd clip (IIRC) requires you to hold the bolt back while inserting the stripper clip = you need 3 hands.

    Bit of a pain. Not something you would try to do if you are in a hurry.

    I've found that if you want more than 10rds get an AK.
    Sure there is the SKS model M & D but seriously just get a brand new AK.
