just wandering,can anybody tell me annything about kimber 1911's,are they as good as colt,springfield,what's your opinion.

    Just purchased a Kimber Eclipse custom II. Im very impressed with the way it shoots and handles. Thanks for the advice guys. [:D]

    It all depends on what you ae looking for in a 1911. Kimber is a name, and like most manufacture's, from time to time, run across issues. I am not sure, but I think the issues might have been cleared up by now. However, Kimber, is still pricey for what you get.

    We really need some more information of what you wish to do. The utmost in reliability from my experience comes from Wilson...but talk about pricey!!! But they are the slickest 1911, and most accurat out of the box I have owned. Fusion has created a good name in 1911's, as has SIG, and PARA-USA. Then there is the original...Colt, who's name alone means collectability, in most cases.

    So many choices, which beg to have more information, to clear up.

    Thanks, one reason I ask is there is a couple of dealers here close to me that sell kimbers. I will check on the wilson and the colts too. I just mainly want a nice 1911 to shoot from time to time.

    Everybody has an opinion and I'll give you mine. The Kimber is good, I just bought one of their custom CDP IIs and it seems accurate and reliable. However, if I were considering spending $1100-$1300 for a new Kimber but just wanted "a nice 1911 to shoot from time to time" I'd opt for a nice clean Series 70 Colt. Not a new in box one, but one that has been used a bit but not abused. You can shoot it occasionally as you propose and it will continue to increase in value. $1200 spent on a new Kimber will be a used $900 Kimber as soon as you shoot it. A nice Series 70 Colt for which you'll pay around $1000 will likely be worth $1500 in a few years. Buy a Colt, enjoy shooting it occasionally, and you can legitimally tell your wife it is an "investment."

    I own 6 kinmers and carry a CDP II. Now I bought the CDP back in 05 and after 10 rounds the safety fell apart. Sent it back and fixed in 2 weeks. Fast forward to 2011 and after several 1000 rounds it fell apart again. Called kimber, told them of teh incident in 05 when it was new, was told to send it back under the old ticket numbert which they gave me being it was on file, got a call that they were sending me a complete new CDP. So their customer service is excellent IMHO. As to shooting, excellent as well BUT I bought a DW Pointman Major 2-4 years back. It was cheaper and IMHO was the best shooting straight from the box 1911 I ever owned. I also own Colts, Wilson, and others. IMHO buy what fits your needs AND budget. As stated, if looking for a plinker, do not buy a high end 1911 (one of my best shooters is a Colt put together from old parts) and one of my worse shooters was a Wilson Combat. IF buying to carry buy a good brand that has good customer servoice as well as good reviews from other shooters. Bottom line is it is you that you are out to please, not other shooters/gun owners.

    Thanks again. I looked at some of the wilsons and I would get divorced if i bought one of those. LOL Looking hard at the colts and kimbers, but dosent hurt to ask around. [:D]

    A friend just bought a new Ruger 1911 and I'm impressed. I own 4 1911s, a Springfield I've had for 30 years,and put a lot of custom work and $$$ into. A 1943 Remington Rand that has alot of sentimental value. A Commander that I use for carry, and one of the first Taurus 1911s in 38 Super.
    I am seriously thinking of buying one of the new Rugers, great sights, eats anything you feed it and shoots very good. A lot of gun for $635.00.

    That's exactly what I was looking for-
    A plinker plain jane-no bling.
    I bought an ATI M1911 military and
    honestly it went bang right out of the box.
    Chews up round nose ,semi wadcutters and
    hollow points.
    I love it, the Grand Raptor II just sits
    in the safe.In fact I might trade it in.

    Rong, drop me a PM before trading in the raptor please. Sort of wanting one BUT am on the fence.
    I forgot about the Springfields, I have a compact tactical Springfield that will shoot with the best of them. You havbe been given plent of good advice, now what you buy is up to you BUT check aall out. I know I personally do not like the way the Taurus feels BUT it is just me. It has a fell of a slab of steel to me and not so much like oethr 1911s. Then again others love em so it is most likely me and what I am used to. The RIAs are good shooters and afforable.

    I don't have a Kimber, but my main 1911 is a Series 70 Gold Cup and I just bought a Sig 1911 to replace it. I have been very impressed with it. Lockup is tight, it's been reliable, and very accurate.
