Looking at new O/U Shotgun

Hey guys, Looking to get a new O/U shotgun for upcoming bird season. Need opinions on CZ Redhead, Mallard etc., Mossberg Silver Reserve, Stoeger, and any other suggestions. Don't want to spend a fortune. Budget $500-$800, Maybe to $900 if I like it. Gonna drag thru apple bushes, cedar swamps etc. Looking for thoughts. Thanks

    can not speak of the others but just done some trigger work on the mossberg silver reserve. hard trigger pull, did get it better but not perfect. fit was ok not perfect. a descent bang for the buck.

    They are MUCH better than the ones you mentioned-imo--of course[:)]

    From the ones you listed, the name brand I would go with is CZ. I woud go with their WoodCock model. I would actually go with their 28 gauge, for anything up to, and including Ringneck Pheasant's. They are made on a 28 gauge frame, not a 20 or 12 gauge frame, are elegant, nimble, and quick. You can find them for as little as $750.00 on the auction sde.

    A sharp eye might find a good Citori in the price range you have...great gun IMO....love mine. Got it at a gun auction several years ago, Browning case, chokes, with the tags from the gunshop still on it....$800 out the door.

    I'm very happy with my Fausti. Not sure on model, but 20ga, selective trigger, screw in chokes, no engraving, matte finish on both receiver and barrel... Nice wood but not shiny.

    dude, get a used citori. you will have 100 times the gun. and if you sell it you will at least break even. those you listed would depreciate dramatically

    look at SKB and SKB/Ithaca, they are quality guns and sell for a reasonable price. I've hunted the AZ deserts with my 500 since 1976 without any problems.

    If it's a hunting gun, look for the ejectors. You will get a good gun with the CZ's but I believe they only have one model with ejectors, The rest are extractors.

    That said, I like my CZ Mallard better, but I prefer my used Browning Citori. I've shot the SKB's and they are a pretty nice shotgun. Another couple you might consider are Verona and Franchi. Both Italian made and quality guns. New prices on those might be over your budget but, used they are a pretty good deal.

    I have several Citoris in 26" and 28" barrels, 12ga and 20ga, an all guage skeet, and a trap and they are bulletproof. The only negative I can think of is that they are heavy. Went pheasant hunting with a 26" 12 ga at Rauhaages in S Cal for pheasant one year and I was tempted to drag the thing behind me at the end of the day.

    I think highly of them and you get a lot of bang for the buck which is why I have so many, but if you are going to be doing a lot of walking, keep this in mind.

    If you're thinking 12 gauge, buy a Browning Superposed. The 12 gauges are highly undervalued in my opinion. 10 times the gun of any others mentioned!
