Some very late (1945) bayonets and rifles had a phosphate finish. Should have a greenish tint.

Thank you for your responses. I am cleaning up a lot of old family stuff and found two Mauser 98 bayonets that are greenish like US Army parkerized weapons. Thought this was unusual as I had others that appeared to be blued.

I didn't think the Germans parkerized their stuff

Thanks, I don't know the origin of these bayonets and the German marking indicaate they were made well before the war ended.

look on the spines for a date. if 45 dated could be right. late war phosphate finished pieces bring a premium. what's the code and date on them Can maybe help more with info and maybe some pics. sold a late phosphated k98 bayonet couple of years ago and got like $300 for it.

    Hi,

The dates on the bayonets. One is dated 42 and the other is dated 43 with a three letter after the numbers. The other side has a 4 digit + letter serial number. These numbers are on the blade and the scabbard.

I will take pictures, these are definely not blued. I put some gun oil on them and will clean them up and load pictures.

I have 3 98K Mausers with similar dates and these are blued and the color differences are quite apparent.

    Hi,

For the record, I am not trying to sell these bayonets. I am retired and passing my collection and inherited stuff to my two sons. Many of the things were my Dads and I never found out their history. So it is my intention of passing these down the line with as much info as I can gather. I really appreciate the comments received.

The pictures are the best I can do. One bayonet and scabbard have the following on them. The bayonet has 42 asw on one side and 1804a on the other, the scabbard has 4643a and 42asw. The second bayonet has 9630g and 43ffc on it, the scabbard 9630g and 43ffc on it.

I placed a parkerized 1911A1 next to the bayonet in one of the pictures in another picture I placed a blued Luger for contrast.

    Thanks again.
