Tradewinds H-5000 in 300 Win Mag?
While on vacation last week in Idaho I accidentally bought a Tradewinds H-5000 with a factory barrel chambered in .300 Win Mag. I don't recall this rifle ever being offered in this caliber and I'm wondering if some of the forum gurus can give me some information on this.

Tradewinds was a importer/distributor located in Washington State, during the 60's/70's time frame. They were a early importer of the Swedish made Husqvarna rifles.
If your rifle is factory original it will be marked with country of origin. Unless they also sold rifles made in the US?
At this late date it will be difficult to ascertain if 300 Win is the original chambering? After 30+ years hard to know who owned it, and what they had done to it. You might attempt to locate either the Blue Book or older copies of the Gun Digest. They might list the various rifles that Tradewinds imported.0 -

The Tradewinds 5000 was last listed in Gun Digest in 1985 with a MSRP of $395. No Magnum calibers were cataloged; The largest I saw was in 30-06. Your rifle may have a custom barrel or chamber or it might have been made in 300 Win Mag and was just never listed in Gun Digest. It happens. My opinion is that it is a factory chambering in a relatively rare caliber for that particular model. Should be a really nice rifle. Congratulations!0 -
Saw it and my credit card accidentally fell out of my wallet onto the counter.....that's what I told my bride anyway [:D] I have seen these rifles in 7mm mag but never 300. Had to have it shipped and still waiting for it to arrive. I will look it over closer when it shows up. 0 -
I'm not familiar with that specific model, however in the mid 60's Husqvarna did produce some magnum rifles- generally 7mm Rem & 300 Win so it is quite likely that it is a factory chambering. The Tradewinds Huskys don't seem to hold their value as well as similar Husqvarnas- why I don't know, since they were made in the same factory- but they are good controlled feed action rifles. But I also wonder how does one go about accidentally buying a rifle- I know, you thought it was going to be a chain saw[:)] 0 -

I don't see a mention of the .300 Win Mag. but a picture of that designation on the rifle's barrel might go a long way to answering the question.
Tradewinds Husky H-5000 were originally built on HVA (Husqvarna M1640)actions. After the contract ended Tradewinds had Krico of Germany build them for a couple of years. The action is the M600 according to Frank De Haas' book. The US copyright on the model name "Husky H-5000" was actually owned by Tradewinds, not Husqvarna so it could be used for both manufacturer's models even though they are distinctively different.
The chambers included:
.243 Win
.270 Win
.30-06 Springfield
7mm Remington Mag.
That's why I asked for a picture of the barrel marks. Some may be under the stock on the bottom of the barrel.

Always possible it was originally sold as a 7mm mag. Later either rebarreled, or original barrel reworked/rerifled to 300 WM. Both are belted magnum cartridges with similar over all length, rim and belt dimensions. Check out the markings on the barrel closely to see if they appear to have been altered in any way.0 -

Been doing some research and I have located a re-printer outfit where I can obtain a copy of their original catalog. What I can read mentions chambers in; 243, 308, 270, 30-06, 7mm rem mag as well as 6.5x55. No mention of 300 win mag. Likely been re-barreled I guess but it would be a nice find if it was a factory chambering.0
