Ruger Mini 14
I heard and read many pros and cons with the mini 14. I was looking to make mime more practicle with some tactical applications i.e. railings, adjustable stock, optics. What do you experts think?
Should I attempt this or should I sell it and get something else?
What aftermarket mags do you recommend?

Its not a Ranch rifle so I quess what your saying is NO to shooting 5.56, shoot only .223 THANKS 0 -

All Mini 14 rifles will shoot both 5.56 and .223. I have several Mini-14s Standard rifles and have shot both rounds out of them for years with no problems. The guns are essentially the same except for exterior features. 0 -

Basically, if you don't shoot anything over 69 grains, you should be golden. It is the real heavy 75, and 77 grain bullets you need to worry about, if it is not 5.56, or Wylde chambered. You can actually stuff the bullet into the rifling before you fire it, and cause dangerous pressure spikes.

I was not referring to the twist, but that is also a good point. I was actually referring to the length of the throat of the 5.56 chamber, being a tad longer than that of a 223. The 223 rifle chambers, were usually cut on a 1 in 12 or 1 in 14 twist, for the lighter bullets. With the short throated 223 chamber, it is entirely possible to stuff one of those long heavy bullets into the rifling lands.

Ya, the older Rugers were "twisted" for 50-55 gr max. (1-12" I think?) Newest ones are a better 1-9". With the mini 14 or 30, I suggest using Ruger factory mags, CDNN has them for a decent price right now. 0
