colt1911A1
finally after a constantly asking my father when was he going to sell me his Colt 1911A1 he finally gave in. I have been after him for years to sell it to me. He has had it for around 15 years. Except for a quick trip to the indoor range after he got it, and a yearly wipedown, its been in safe. I own two other 1911A1 remington rands 1945 mfg, other posts on here, and an argentine police trainer 45 and 22 slides and parts.
This one , frame and slide match, just missed the Navy run, darn, but Indeed 1942 2361.
Question is, what is the 2361? General Stores? last run for 1942 or were they for some other destination?
does not have the 1942 era mag, but does have risdon. I got the 1911/1911A1 book by Joe Poyer and it helped me out alot. I did not write down markings,but referenced in book. First thing I did on disassembly was check to see if slide s/n matched frame and it did. We took it to military relic gun show and appraisal after our trip to range and back in 1998 several collectors ASKED TO HANDLE IT AND GENTLY DISASSEMBLE IT, we agreed and were very happy with their evaluation, refused two four digit offers right then and there, took her home, called the insurance guy and in safe it went. Back then I went along for the ride and shooting. Since I aquired my Rands, I knew that Colt inside and out. I did not expect my father to give it to me, but given his age, its better to have it in my possession now instead of later. pics taken with sony handicam , first i took still pics , took a while to figure out. IF more sane people carried guns, the insane would get off fewer rounds, support your second ammendment!

Your post isn't clear? If the serial number is 2361? There is something wrong. Please provide quality close-up photos of the left side of the slide and right side of the frame.
EDIT #1, My reference shows your 1911A1 being made by Colt in 1942. "WB" was Waldemar Broberg, a U.S. Army Col. who was chief inspector at Colt and S & W, in 1941.0 -
That is the serial number block of 1942 Colts right after a big Navy order, and right before the Singer and H&R blocks.
797640-800000 = 2361 guns
And ol' Waldemar (WB stamp) was one of the shorter term chief inspectors, too; which is worth points to the speculators.0 -
If I may I would like to suggest when taking pictures you use a medium color background white background makes the pistol TOO dark to see details and true color of the pistol . "PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN", We would love to seepictures of the Argentine police trainer and 22 conversion unit.I have one of the Argentine Navy that was contracted 1941-1942 this was a Colt commerical unit pre war with SWARTZ Safety. serial number 37 higher then my Pre war NATIONAL MATCH also with Swartz. 0
