CIA VZ2008 (VZ58 clone)?
Local dealer has these for $429. Appears to have a milled receiver, US made non chrome lined barrel and fixed stock. Looks to be a well built rifle for the price. Supposedly built by CIA using parts kits and some US parts (922r compliance I imagine).
Anyone have any experience or ever shot one?

I would be very wary, considering the price. The earlier US built receiver, VZ 58 clones were way more expensive. I might be a old fuddy, but anytime I see prices come down 30/40%, figure got to be a reason.
There are a bunch of on-line boards that cater to the various AK enthusiasts. I would do as much research as possible on this specific variation. Some times when the price is to good, things don't tern out as well as you hoped. CIA might be a name that Century is using on their stuff to muddy the water.0 -

Century-built guns are a crapshoot as I'm sure you are well aware; mis-aligned barrels, trunions not welded, sights rotated, bad welds or rivets loose on a variety of guns out of Vermont.
I made a very lucky buy on an L1A1 they produced a few years ago, and so far; everything is roses, but if you get one like the FFL showed me that he had received; all bets are off.0 -

CIA= Century International Arms-or-CAI=Century Arms International?? I agree the Century quality is hit or miss. This particular VZ2008 was flawless. I have seen big improvements from Century in the past few years as far as quality. This VZ2008 appears to be better built than any stamped AK I have seen, although it will not take a standard AK mag. It has a striker as opposed to a hammer. Fit and finish was superb if you can get past the ugly stock which is like a synthetic blended with wood chips. It seems durable enough, but funky looking.

that is another point they have their own mags can;t just use any ol ak47 mag 0 -
Just a heads up, to be very careful, when purchasing anything made by Century Arms International, or Hesse/Blackthorne/Vulcan. If there is anyone who can screw up something even a third world country can build proficiently, it would be these folks.

Is this rifle new or used? Regardless of this first question, I would run back and purchase this rifle for this price. I purchased one about a year ago for $465 a heck of a deal at that time from a local dealer. His shop was flooded and only the cardboard box and leather magazine pouch was affected. Only one magazine came with the rifle. I purchased 10 used extra magazines from AIM surplus which are now out of stock. One of the 10 would not seat correctly in the rifle. I have shot several hundred round through this rifle using various different brands of ammunition and have not had one single problem. This rifle is more accurate that my AK's and most of my SKS's. My dealer had several more that were priced just shy if $500 and I was going to put another on layaway. Early this summer I went to purchase another and He was sold out and stated something to the affect of Oboma restricting imports of these? Here are the pros and cons. Century farms out these rifles from somewhere else and they do a good job. Some people have stated that they finally got thing right. They can use surplus magazines and are still 922 compliant. The CAI rifles have bayonet lugs and can accept and use bayonet. Finish is some sort of parkerization compared two CZ's paint on finish. The CAI rifles lack a chrome lined barrel. CAI rifles come with a slant break that is easily replaced with correct muzzle nut. I would go out and buy it if you do not like it I will give you $480 for it. I wanted to purchase more magazines and found out AIM was out of stock I found four magazines and leather pouch for around $75 shipped, still not two bad a price.0 -
Thanks for the feedback. I was amazed at the fit and finish of this rifle. With the milled receiver and overall design of the gun, it seems to be better built than any stamped AK I have seen. This gun was NIB at the shop I saw it at and he had the leather mag pouch with 4 mags for $65.
