colt saa grips
Last year I bought a 3rd gen Colt SAA - comes with the black checkered grips and I don't care for them. Ideally I'd like to switch them out for plain old dark walnut but finding a pair that fit has become a PITA. Hogues are wildly oversized. Is there anyone out there that makes wood grips that fit "out of the box" on a 3rd gen?

Will saa grips for a 1st. generation fit a 2nd. and 3rd. gen.?

NO/MAYBE For the most part the grip frame on first gen pistols are smaller then second gen pistols and the grip frame on second gen guns are smaller then third gen pistols .BUt each grip frame may be different. . Along with this the design on the grips changed MANY times Thus if you swap grips or install other time frame grips the pistol will forever have MIS MATCHED grips to yhe pistol and an expert will be able to tell thay are not original to thr gun. 0 -
My limited experience is that 1st Generation are too small for 2nd or 3rd. I have a 3rd Generation with the black rubber grips and have searched for wood replacements. The best I've been able to do is getting them off another 2nd/3rd Gen and fitting them. Those come closest to fitting.
Hogues come oversized, you can outline the frame against the wood and send them to Hogue for finishing.0
