Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40mm Riflescope?
Are these worth a try on a heavy barrel 308win for up to 600yds target shooting?

In all honesty, in order to hit a target at 600 yards, you have to be able to see it clearly. Plus you have to have the adjustability, and you just might need a 20 MOA base under that scope too. That scope is not what you are looking for, and you will be unhappy, most likely. That means you will have to come up with that money again, plus more to get the optics you need.
If you are stuck on Nikon, you need the Buckmaster 4.5-14 minimum, and preferrably the 6-18, to start with. I might, as well as other's, have other suggestions too, but we need to know a budget. I sure the other's that have experience with this, as well as myself, don't want to see you get something, that has the odds of working stacked against it, and be at a point of having to go back to the drawing board.

bpost, has my exact thoughts, but unfortunately, they are not in the Burris line up any ore. You might find them on the auction side though, and they do carry the famous "forever" warranty.

I'm pretty flexible on the brand it don't have to be Nikon, I just liked the BDC & being able to use there website to calculate the ranges. So thats really the only thing I'd like in a scope. My budget is $300-$400. 0 -
