shotgun db
I was looking in may pile of old guns and came across a double barrel 12ga with the name on the side as Eclipse Company. It has the triggers on the outside. Can't find in most places I have looked. Anyone know anything about this gun.

These were produced by Henri Pieper in Leige, Belgium and most were imported by E.C. Mecham Arms Co of St. Louis,MO. These were catalog sales guns typically priced in the $15 range on up, depending on the features. WWI cut of the importation of these guns but huge numbers were imported and they turn up quite regularly. Due to the use of "twist" barrels the vast majority are not safe to shoot and are bought primarily as wall hangers. 0 -

My Eclipse is Belgian made and has steel barrels with a damascus print on them. The left barrel is choke bored. 0 -
"ECLIPSE" was a "Trade Brand Name" used by the E.C. Mecham Arms Company of St. Louis,MO on guns made for them both foreign (Belgium) and domestic. Please take a look at the bottom of the barrels under the forearm for any proof marks. if there are the letters "ELG" stamped there in an oval with a crown on top, then the gun was madein Belgium. If there are no marks, then the gun was made in the United States and most likely by the Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1930). 0 -
Given the age and provenance of these utility shotguns, finding a parts gun is probably your best bet. If it is a Crescent buily gun, there are a huge number (over 400 according to Ned) of brand names that might work. Looked under forend it has the letters ELG with a crown on top. one barrel is marked 180 and one 182. also a #213 and 45919 in the center of the barrels. 0 -
Belgian then. Probably the best thing to do is clean it up non-aggressively, and hang it on the wall. You can imagine the family that old girl fed during the lean years early in the last century. She deserves a rest. 0 -

No the Crescent guns were US made. There were tons of Belgian guns made, but I have no idea how to find two by the same maker. 0
