Is this cartridge usually in a LA., or SA. I'm thinking of doing a rebarrel on a 700 rem. THX

    Hawkshaw,

Actually it has been chambered in both because it is technically an intermediate length cartridge. Remington has always used the Short Action with a loaded length of 2.825" OAL. This does not preclude you from using a Long Action and it will probably work with very little modification.

It was originally conceived as a varmint cartridge loaded with lighter, therefore shorter bullets which made it convenient to use in the SA. Remington failed to anticipate the desire of American hunters to press this cartridge into service for hunting deer. They did have a 90 grain bullet loaded at one time which functioned in the slower 1:12" twist.

These days, the 6mm Remington is seeing a mild revival in a couple of forms using slightly improved case designs. The long neck is maintained while the shoulder is improved to 30 or 35 degrees depending on the variation. I am fielding one version for competition under certain circumstances using a 1:7" for the 105/107/115 bullets.

    Best.

Long will give you more seating options for reloading...short will make it a tiny bit handier, but will really limit what you can do with the cartridge. Long is the way to go with these mid-length rounds, IMO.

A friend has a full house any-any Match Rifle in 6mm Rem that is a great shooter, very accurate and shooting as flat and close to the wind as a lot of more "modern" rounds.

I am pretty sure it is a short action but since it is a single shot, there is no difficulty loading it. Might take a little fiddling to get an unfired round out with the long spitzer, though.

My 700 VLS is short action as is my 660. The 6 was also offered in the 788, I think that would be considered a short action too.
