Colt factory rebluing - question.

I recently purchased a Colt Diamond Back - little collector's value - that's in need for rebluing.

Does anyone have first hand experience dealing with the Colt's factory and their gunsmiths in relation to rebluing a gun?

All input, pro and con, greatly appreciated.

Edit: Thanks Rufe for your response. It's a Diamond Back, 1968. I'd like for it to look somewhat decent. Is it "Royal Blue" what I need?

  Don't know anything about Colt reblueing? It would help though if you were more specific about what you want. Do you want to put it back in factory original condition, same as it was NIB. Or just have it refinished so that it looks descent.
  
  Big difference between the two. If it's an older model that was hand polished and blued using different processes that Colt use's today, it's not going to have the correct NIB condition. Your going to have to send it to a pro who specializes in restoring guns to original, period NIB condition.

  Hey Jorge,i sent a diamondback back to Colt to have it refinish back in March of this year. I went with a factory nickle finish.( have not got it back yet) they said around Sept. ,Oct. . Can't wait for it to get here. set me back 428.00 for the nickle , or 280.00 for bluing.
  6 month turn around. (hurry up and wait[:D])
  mine is a 1966 model[;)]

  I had a SAA refinished by the Colt Custom Shop several years ago, & it looked like new.
  
  The Diamondback is a "standard" quality, machine made gun, with nothing special in the fit or finish department. It does not have the hand honed action of the Python, or it's Royal Blue finish. (I thought that "Royal Blue" was mainly due to a higher level of polish, but I could be wrong.)
  
  If you know that any parts are bad, you may want to replace them on your own; Colt does not have parts for obsolete guns. If your grips are worn, this may be a good time to replace them, as they will be fitted to the gun before bluing.
  
  I don't know shipping charges from the possessions, but it may be expensive if you are unable to have an FFL send/receive your gun.

  I saw one that was a factory job and was peviously pitted. They couldn't work miracles.

  take a look at their work..they do beautiful work and a lot of it is as good as what you would get from Colt. They do the custom nickel for Cimarron.

  Go to the Colt Forum and search for a recent thread started by a person disappointed in the way his factory-refinished Colt turned out. For every disappointed customer, others were satisfied.
  
  There have been prior threads where a Ford's refinished gun was posted, and my impression is that the finish did not look at all like a factory Colt finish. The finish was too shiny, too black and too "soft" (rounded corners, edges and flats).
  
  I do not know how bad your Diamondback is, but, in almost every case, a refinish will reduce value by more than the refinish costs, a kind of financial "double whammy!" Think carefully before doing any refinishing.
