RRA AR-15 question.
Had a friend bring over his NIB RRA AR-15 this evening. He was looking for some info on the platform and I was happy to help.
The front pin on his felt like it was welded in place.
The rear pin popped out and we executed the tilt of the upper on the lower.
A screwdriver wrapped in a cloth, and 20 minutes later. We had it about 3/4 of the way out. I got tired and showed him how to pull the carrier etc and give it a scrubbing.
Is that normal? Should I have just taken a dowel of the appropriate size and whacked the poop out of it? I really wanted to. But it wasn't mine.

is really stubborn,so I just left it

No that's not normal and they make a tool made of Delrin ( hard plastic ) that is made for pounding out the pins. Brownells or Midway sells them and they are relatively inexpensive.0 -
If you don't have a nonmaring "pin knocker", you'd better get one just for general purposes. I have seen some pins that were initially difficult to move because the detent was somewhat stuck in the little retaining notch but "20 minutes to get it 3/4 the way out" means there's problem. The pin should move fairly easily once it's started. Sounds like the fit is a wee bit tight or the pin hole is not lined up. 0 -
I have purchased 3 RRA from the factory and they all came with the yellow plastic tool for removing the pins. The pins were all stiff at first and on one I actually had to tap the yellow tool with a small hammer to get the pin moving. After a few range sessions and cleanings I was able to push them out with minimal force. I would suggest these tight tolerances are what makes the RRA a better than average firearm. 0
